HEY! IT'S ONLY AUGUST!

Fuck, I know. Back off! I should've done a half-year list, but didn't because I wasn't ready to make decisions. But this is where I'm at now, on August 22nd. This could change tomorrow. Muse could go back to three (I'm too amped on EarlyNov right now). Be Your Own Pet could fall further (mm, short-lived fun). Check back in January!

How about that Brand New?

Yeah, really. Interscope has "penciled in" October 10th according to the almighty Jason Tate. Based on the demos, the live songs, the rumors, the hunches... this could actually live up to the hype. And holy shit, what if it does? Album of the year? The last three years? The decade? I have a tough decision to make, naturally -- do I download this when it leaks? It really depends on how early it leaks. If it's several weeks, I don't see a choice in the matter. I'll just have jackass friends going "HOLY SHIT IT'S AMAZING" or "MEH," either of which would send me into a tailspin. But if it's a few days, maybe I can wait. Probably not.

Anything else, jackass?

Actually, yeah. I am in love with that new Killers track, so I am way psyched to hear the new record. The new Decemberists record sounds pretty great, too. But I definitely am interested in the forthcoming records from (in order of potential release): John Mayer, This Providence, Justin Timberlake, New Found Glory, Spitalfield, The Blood Brothers, Cobra Starship, Sparta, Bright Eyes, My Chemical Romance, Incubus, and Copeland. And certainly, there will be surprises along the way (The Pipettes, anyone? Amazing!), so that's just the list of what I know about.

It really comes down to this:

Brand New = Amazing; 2006 = Amazing
Brand New = Fine; 2006 = Okay
Brand New = Junk; 2006 = ARRGGHHHH

As of right now, we have the same #1 for the year. I know your #1 for 2004 inevitably changed after the year was over, but this could be the second time in three years when we share the same #1. Or... perhaps even #1 and #2? Except I have to throw in new Deftones and Silverchair into my mix, which might cause complications with that possibility.

We have the same #1 also. Except for I have a tie at the #1 spot. I'm not sure how it's gonna pan out, but it's gonna depend on replayability. Check out the Kaddisfly album 'Set Sail The Prarie'. See if it makes it into the top of your list :)
